Fixing Your Eyes on Jesus
Scripture: "Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus,
the pioneer and perfecter of faith." — Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)
the pioneer and perfecter of faith." — Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)
Devotional:
In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, distractions are everywhere. Whether it’s our
phones, to-do lists, or even our thoughts, they often pull our focus away from what truly
matters—our relationship with God and the purpose He has for us.
The Bible likens life to a race, one that requires focus and perseverance. Athletes don’t run
aimlessly; they set their eyes on the finish line. As believers, our “finish line” is Christ, and our
victory is found in Him. When distractions come, they can feel overwhelming, but the key to
overcoming them is fixing our eyes on Jesus.
Consider the story of Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:29-31). When Peter kept his eyes on
Jesus, he was able to do the impossible—he walked on water. But the moment he looked at the
wind and the waves, fear set in, and he began to sink. In the same way, when we focus on Jesus,
distractions lose their power over us.
Reflection Questions:
1. What distractions are pulling you away from your time with God or your purpose?
2. How can you refocus your heart and mind on Jesus today?
Action Steps:
1. Start your day with prayer and Scripture, asking God to help you stay focused.
2. Identify one key distraction in your life and take a small step to minimize it (e.g., setting
boundaries with technology or creating a quiet space for prayer).
3. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, pause and say a quick prayer: “Lord, help me fix my
eyes on You.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my anchor in the storms of life. I confess that
distractions often pull my focus away from You. Help me to realign my heart and mind on what
truly matters. Give me the strength and perseverance to run this race with my eyes fixed on
Jesus, trusting in His guidance every step of the way.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
